Book Cover: Autism iHelp – Play

Autism iHelp - Play is an app to help children learn and develop vocabulary with a simple and clean interface. The child is presented with a picture and three words. Each word is stated and highlighted to help the child focus on the individual word. The words are pronounced slowly giving the student a chance to process the word. This app introduces play words and includes 24 photos chosen based on established expressive language milestones, which are divided into three sub groups of eight. With 24 photos, over-stimulation is less likely and increases the child's ability to grasp the concepts at an appropriate rate. The images include toys, outdoor activities and arts and crafts. First, the student should go through each topic to master the words for each category. Then, the child can play the different games. The games can be played by individual topic or using all of the play words. Students can either pick a word or an image. Upon completion of the activity, the person working with the student can see the student's progress report. Options allow the facilitator choices such as turning on or off audio, image name, random image, female or male audio and game audio. Suggested IEP Goals: The student will match ____ functional sight words to its corresponding picture on a worksheet by drawing a line from the word to the picture. The student will identify ____ functional sight words related to items in the environment (e.g., home, workplace, community, school).
